The Insta360 GO Ultra is a 52.9 g wearable camera that costs $379.99 (checked 1 September 2026, against a $449.99 list price), shoots 4K60 from a 1/1.28-inch sensor, and is rated to 10 m. It is for anyone who wants a camera on a collar, a cap, a chest strap or a dog harness — somewhere a normal action camera is too big to go — and who will carry a second object to get a screen and a full day of battery.

That second object is most of this review. The Action Pod is a 108.5 g cradle carrying a 2.5-inch flip touchscreen and a 1450 mAh battery; the camera clips into it magnetically. Alone, the camera gives you 70 minutes and no screen. Docked, 200 minutes and a viewfinder.

Two weeks with it: a working week clipped to a jacket, three evenings on the dog's harness, a weekend handed to a child, and an afternoon in a swimming pool.

The short version: it is the best wearable camera sold through official US channels, DJI's rival module is 0.9 g lighter and not officially sold here, GoPro's alternative is $110 cheaper and a smaller-sensor camera, and the two questions worth asking are whether you will carry the pod and whether 4K60 is enough.

Two rows need care. The GO 3S wins the weight row outright at 39.1 g — the lightest thing here is the GO Ultra's cheaper sibling. DJI's Osmo Nano module is 0.9 g lighter than the GO Ultra and ties its combined runtime; DJI also does not officially sell it in the USA, a purchasing fact rather than a specification, and treated as one throughout.

First Impressions: Two Objects, Two Weights

Out of the box the GO Ultra is two things, and the figure on the box — 52.9 g — describes only one of them.

The camera is a rounded slab with one lens, a magnetic back and a single button. No screen: point it, press, trust. It ships with a magnet pendant that holds it to a shirt from the inside and a clip for a cap brim; both held well enough that after the first day I stopped checking.

The Action Pod is the other object, at 108.5 g — more than twice the camera. It carries the 2.5-inch flip touchscreen, the 1450 mAh battery and the mounting; the camera drops in magnetically and charges there. Docked, you have in effect a small conventional action camera; undocked, a wearable and a pod in your pocket.

Almost everything a buyer wants from this product lives in the pod: the screen, and the 200-minute runtime — the camera alone manages 70 minutes. Buy the GO Ultra imagining the 52.9 g object and nothing else and you have a camera with no viewfinder and roughly an hour of battery. A good product for a specific job, and not the one the marketing photographs show.

One housekeeping point: there is no camera called the GO 4. Insta360's current GO-line cameras are the GO Ultra and the Insta360 GO 3S, and this page refers to those two.

Weight: 52.9 g, and the 0.9 g That Beats It

Weight goes first because it is the reason the category exists, and because the honest picture here is the most interesting.

Start with the row the GO Ultra loses. DJI's Osmo Nano module is 52 g against the GO Ultra's 52.9 g — 0.9 g lighter — so the GO Ultra is not the lightest camera module of its kind on the market. Where the Osmo Nano wins, it wins this row on a published figure, and no framing changes a scale reading. That is the spec loss, on its own.

Separately — and it is a separate point — DJI does not officially sell the Osmo Nano in the USA and publishes no USD price for it; a US reader buys one from B&H at $389 or $409 (checked 3 September 2026). So the two statements stay separate: the Osmo Nano module is lighter, and it is not officially sold here. Collapsing them into one would be a sleight of hand.

Then Insta360's own range. The GO 3S is 39.1 g. If weight is the only thing that matters — a mount with a strict limit, a very small pet — the GO 3S is lighter and cheaper at B&H. The GO Ultra's argument is that it pairs a body within 0.9 g of the lightest module in this table with the largest sensor in it. That is the trade.

GoPro's LIT HERO is 93 g. It has no pod to carry, a genuine simplification, but 93 g against 52.9 g is the figure on your body. On the dog's harness the GO Ultra disappeared; I would not have put a 93 g camera there.

In two weeks the camera's weight was what I appreciated most and thought about least; the 108.5 g pod was what I thought about. That tension is the honest limitation further down.

Sensor and Low Light: 1/1.28-inch, f/2.85, PureVideo

The GO Ultra's sensor is 1/1.28-inch behind an f/2.85 lens with a 156° field of view, shooting 4K60, 1080p240 slow motion and 50MP stills. Against the GO 3S that is a sensor class up, 4K60 against 4K30, and stills where the GO 3S publishes none. Against the LIT HERO it is a larger sensor and 50MP against 12MP; they tie at 4K60.

Against the Osmo Nano the gap is small and I will not dress it up. The GO Ultra's 1/1.28-inch is nominally larger than the Nano's 1/1.3-inch; both fractions are stated so you can see how close they are, and I would not choose on a fraction of a millimetre. On aperture, the Nano's f/2.8 and the GO 3S's f/2.8 are fractionally wider on paper than the GO Ultra's f/2.85 — again too small to see.

What you can see is PureVideo, Insta360's named low-light mode, which the GO 3S does not have. On the harness at dusk with it off, the footage did what small-sensor footage does after the sun goes — noise in the shadows, smeared grass. With it on, the same walk came back cleaner, at the cost of a little crispness in the highlights. Not a substitute for a bigger camera, but a real mode doing real work.

Stabilisation is FlowState Stabilization with 360 Horizon Lock, which keeps the horizon level when the camera on your chest is not. Handed to a child for a weekend, footage from a camera being swung about came back watchable.

One thing this section cannot tell you: dynamic range. Insta360 publishes no figure for the GO Ultra, where it does for the X6 and the Ace Pro 2. GoPro publishes none for the LIT HERO. DJI's 13.5 stops for the Osmo Nano is in a press release, not its spec table. Nobody here has a figure you can hold them to; we will not invent one.

Water: 10 m Rated, and Why We Print No IP Code

The GO Ultra camera is rated to 10 m without a housing and 60 m in Insta360's dive case — the same as the GO 3S. GoPro's LIT HERO is rated to 5 m, half the depth, and this is the row the cheaper camera loses clearly. DJI's Osmo Nano matches the 10 m for the module only; its Vision Dock is IPX4, splash resistance, so its screen and second battery stay dry.

Now the part we flag rather than smooth over. This page says "10 m rated" and prints no ingress-protection code for the GO Ultra, because the sources do not agree. Insta360's product material states IPX8. B&H lists IPX4. Insta360's press material for a later limited edition of the same camera also says IPX4. Three sources, two codes, and the codes do not mean the same thing — one implies continuous submersion, the other splash resistance. Depth is 10 m in every source; the code is not. We publish the figure they agree on and say why the other is missing.

The 10 m figure is the camera's. Our source set carries no separate depth rating for the Action Pod, so assume it stays dry unless Insta360's current documentation says otherwise. That is how the product wants to be used anyway: the pod frames and charges, the camera goes in.

The afternoon in the pool was camera-only, on a lanyard, with a child attached for part of it; it came out working with no water behind the lens. One afternoon in a pool is not a test to 10 m, and I will not present it as one.

Runtime and Charging: 70 Minutes Alone, 200 With the Pod

Runtime is last because it is the criterion a reader can most immediately dispute, and I would rather you reach it having seen the rest.

The GO Ultra runs 70 minutes on its 500 mAh cell alone and 200 minutes with the 1450 mAh in the pod. The GO 3S manages 38 minutes alone and 140 with its pod; the GO Ultra roughly doubles its sibling's standalone figure.

Then DJI. The Osmo Nano publishes 90 minutes for the module and 200 with its dock. The combined figures tie exactly, and DJI's standalone figure is 20 minutes longer than the GO Ultra's 70. That is the second criterion on this page where the Osmo Nano is genuinely better on a published number, and a comparison that left it out would not be worth reading.

GoPro publishes no rated runtime at all for the LIT HERO — only a 1255 mAh cell. A capacity is not a runtime; it is the size of the tank, not how far the car goes. Worth knowing when you weigh a $269.99 camera against a $379.99 one.

Two figures are unpublished on the GO Ultra's own side, and we say so with the same plainness: fast-charge time and operating temperature range. Insta360 gives a fast-charge figure for other cameras in its range; not for this one.

In use: pod on charge overnight, camera living in the pod between clips, and on the commuting week I never ran it flat. If your shooting looks like that, 70 minutes alone is not a limitation. If you want the camera on your body, screenless, for a whole afternoon, it is — and the pod in your pocket is the answer, which is the next section.

Full Specifications

The GO Ultra sits beside the GO 3S here because both come from the same manufacturer's material and compare row for row. Not published means the manufacturer has not stated the figure — which, for a $379.99 camera, happens more often than it should.

Count the GO Ultra's unpublished rows: dynamic range, peak brightness, focal length, zoom range, fast-charge time, operating temperature. Six figures a buyer might reasonably want, none stated. The X6 page on this site argues about which manufacturers disclose and which do not; the X6 publishes both dynamic range and brightness, so it can. The GO Ultra cannot, and we will not pretend otherwise here.

"Not verified for this page" differs from "not published": the first means our source set does not carry the figure; the second means we checked the manufacturer's material and it is absent. We would rather show the gap than fill it.

The Honest Limitation

The pod is not optional in practice. 52.9 g is the number on the box. 52.9 g plus 108.5 g is 161.4 g, and 161.4 g is what goes in the bag if you want the screen and the 200-minute runtime — which, after two weeks, is what you will want. At 161.4 g the GO Ultra kit is heavier than a GoPro HERO13 Black at 159 g and not far short of an Insta360 X6 at 196 g. Neither of those cameras needs a second object to have a screen.

The right way to read this is not that the GO Ultra is secretly heavy. It is that 52.9 g is the part on your body, and that is the reason to buy it; the pod makes the rest of the day work. If you would carry the pod everywhere and shoot from it most of the time, you have bought a 161.4 g action camera with a smaller sensor than several one-piece rivals, and you should look at those instead.

The second limitation is the ceiling. 4K60 is the top of the GO Ultra's range. There is no 8K anything, and no headroom to crop a tighter frame out of a wider one in the edit. For a camera that lives on a collar that is a sensible engineering choice. For anyone who has been reading about what the X6 or the Ace Pro 2 can do, it is a different product, and it should be bought as one.

Who Should Buy It, and Who Should Not

Buy the Insta360 GO Ultra if the camera is going somewhere a normal camera cannot: a collar, a cap brim, a chest strap, a child, a dog. Its case is the 1/1.28-inch sensor, 4K60, PureVideo and the 10 m rating in a 52.9 g body — not weight alone, and not price. At $379.99 (checked 1 September 2026) it is the best wearable camera sold through official US channels, and by the published figures the better of Insta360's two GO cameras by a clear margin. Buy the Insta360 GO 3S instead if weight is the whole decision. At 39.1 g it is the lighter camera, and at $349.99 from B&H (checked 1 September 2026) it is the cheaper one — check B&H rather than Insta360's store, where it was $379.99 on the same day. You give up the sensor class, 4K60, PureVideo and roughly half the standalone runtime for it.

Buy the GoPro LIT HERO instead if $110 matters more than the sensor. At $269.99 (checked 1 September 2026) it is one piece, no pod, and it shoots 4K60. It is 93 g, rated to 5 m against 10 m, carries a 1/2.8-inch sensor and 12MP stills, and GoPro publishes no rated runtime for it. For someone who wants a small camera rather than a wearable one, it is an honest recommendation.

Consider the DJI Osmo Nano if you are outside the USA, or are content buying through B&H at $389 or $409 (checked 3 September 2026) with no official US price behind it. Its module is 0.9 g lighter, its standalone runtime is 20 minutes longer, and it publishes an 800-nit screen brightness where Insta360 publishes none. Those are real wins, and this page has said so three times. Its dock is IPX4 only, and DJI's 13.5-stop dynamic-range claim lives in a press release rather than its spec table.

Buy none of these if you want a main camera. 4K60 is the ceiling on every camera in this review. For the rest of the Insta360 range and where the GO line sits within it, the full 2026 lineup is the place to start.

Is the Insta360 GO Ultra waterproof?

The camera is rated to 10 m without a housing and 60 m in Insta360's dive case. The 10 m figure is the camera's, not the Action Pod's; treat the pod as dry-land equipment unless Insta360's current documentation says otherwise.

Insta360 publishes one storage fact for the GO Ultra: microSD up to 2 TB. It publishes no required speed class, UHS rating or video-speed rating in the material we checked, so we will not recommend one as though it had. Buy a reputable card sold for high-resolution video and format it in the camera.
