What this site is
Action Camera Auditor exists because action camera marketing is unusually bad. Specs are quoted at conditions nobody shoots in, "8K" means four different things depending on the brand, and half the comparison content online is a spec table someone copied from a press release and never checked.
So we do the boring part. Every figure on this site is traced to a manufacturer specification or an authorised retailer, dated, and re-checked when it moves. When two sources disagree, we say so rather than picking the more convenient one. When a manufacturer doesn't publish a number, we say that too — because "not published" is itself useful information when a rival does publish it.

We cover Insta360, DJI and GoPro, plus the budget brands and the ecosystem around them: mounts, microphones, ND filters, memory cards and mobile editing apps.

Funding doesn't change the numbers. Every specification we publish is sourced and checkable, and where a competing camera wins a criterion we say which one and by how much — you'll find DJI recommended over Insta360 for diving, for multi-day battery life and for absolute lightness on this site, because on those criteria DJI is the right answer.
How we test
Five weighted criteria, applied identically to every camera: image and video quality (30%), stabilisation (25%), battery and durability (20%), ease of use and app (15%), value for money (10%). The full method, including what each test involves, is on our methodology page.
What we won't do
- Publish a specification we can't trace to a primary source
- Quote a price without the date we checked it
- Recommend a camera for a use case it isn't rated for, however much we like the camera
- Leave an error up once we know about it — tell us and we'll fix it and note the correction
