Background
I've been shooting on action cameras since 2019 — starting with a hand-me-down that flooded on its second dive, which turned out to be an education in reading depth ratings properly.
Since then I've tested every major flagship from Insta360, DJI and GoPro, plus a long tail of budget cameras that mostly deserve their prices. Most of my own footage is hiking, cold-water swimming and a lot of unglamorous piece-to-camera work, which is why battery behaviour in cold and screen visibility in sun get more attention on this site than slow-motion modes do.
How I work
Every camera goes through the same five weighted criteria before it appears here. Specifications get traced to the manufacturer's own documentation — not to a retailer's summary, and never to another review site. Where I can't verify something, I say I can't, and where two official sources disagree I publish both figures.
I write the comparisons to be usable by someone deciding between two cameras in a shop, which means being specific about what you lose as well as what you gain.
Disclosure
How this site is funded is set out on the affiliate disclosure page, and the current position is stated at the top of every page.
Where a competing camera is the better answer, I say so — there are recommendations for DJI over Insta360 on this site, on diving depth, multi-day battery and weight. I'd rather you trusted a recommendation you can check than took one you can't.
